NEET 2019 Topper Interview – The wait finally ended for NEET 2019 result on the auspicious day of the festival of Eid. The young lad from Rajasthan not only took the first step towards his goal of becoming a doctor, but he is also NEET 2019 topper. Coming from a family of doctors, Nalin Khandelwal, topper of NEET 2019 always wanted to venture into this noble profession. His love for biology and the right guidance from his teachers at the coaching institute helped him to sail through with ease as he cracked NEET 2019. Nalin Khandelwal, NEET 2019 topper scored 701 marks and an emphatic 99.99 percentile in conversation with Careers360 highlighted the importance of self-study. He also stressed on the need to be thorough with the NCERT books. Living in the present and cherishing his moment of joy, Nalin has a fascination for table tennis and billiards. Question: Congratulations on emerging as a NEET 2019 topper! How are you feeling about your NEET results?
Nalin Khandelwal: The result was unexpected. I had done well in NEET 2019 but I was not expecting to top. Currently, I am enjoying the moment along with my family and friends.
Question:Tell us something about your background.
Nalin Khandelwal: I belong to Sikar and my parents are doctors. My brother is also pursuing MBBS from SNMC Jodhpur.
Question: What motivated you to pursue medicine as a career?
Nalin Khandelwal: I belong to a family of doctors as I had said earlier also that my parents are doctors and my brother is also pursuing medicine. I enjoy studying biology, moreover, I consider this profession as very Nobel.
Question: How did your family support you in your journey?
Nalin Khandelwal: My parents motivated me a lot and they supported me throughout the course of preparation.even if i was not able to do well in the mock test that was conducted in the coaching institute, my parents stood by me and they also believed in me when the chips were down.
Question: Could you share with us your overall and subject-wise score in NEET 2019?
Nalin Khandelwal: I am yet to see scorecard of NEET 2019.
Question: Which other medical entrances have you appeared for?
Nalin Khandelwal: The other medical exams for which I appeared are JIPER and AIIMS.
Question:How did you prepare for NEET 2019 while balancing your preparations for the Board exam and other medical entrances?
Nalin Khandelwal: I mainly focussed on NCERT books and the study material that was provided by Allen coaching institute. There were no special books that I consulted during the course of my preparation.
Question:Tell us about your NEET preparation routine.
Nalin Khandelwal: Apart from self-study and what was taught at the coaching institute, I used to set daily targets and made sure to complete them before sleeping. In order to crack NEET-UG, firstly I focused on completing NCERT syllabus. After that, I used to do multiple reading of a single topic and prepared notes for preparation. This used to help me with memorizing a lot of things. I also practiced JEE Mains previous year papers as on many occasions JEE Main questions are repeated in NEET-UG. This helped me a lot.
Question: Did you take any coaching or help? How beneficial did it prove?
Nalin Khandelwal: Yes, I took coaching from Allen Career Institute and it was a great turning point. At Allen, they had National level competition where a pool of talented students from all over the country study together to achieve their goal. This proved beneficial for me. In order to complete the target that was set by me, I used to remain awake till 2:00 a.m
Question:How much time did you devote to self-study vs. coaching?
Nalin Khandelwal: I used to self-study for eight hours after my coaching and at the same time I ensured that I got my seven hours of sleep. Coaching used to take place five days a week and there I used to spend four to five hours.
Question: What was your exam day strategy for all three subjects, namely Physics, Chemistry, and Biology?
Nalin Khandelwal: Since, I had prepared well, I was quite relaxed. I was confident of Biology and hence I attempted that first followed by Chemistry and then physics?
Question: Which according to you were the toughest and easiest sections?
Nalin Khandelwal: I personally believed that there were certain ambiguous questions in Biology. Overall I found the question paper easy.
Question: How did you tackle your strong and weak areas?
Nalin Khandelwal: My weak area was Physics and for that I used to repeatedly study from NCERT books till I was sure that I could tackle the questions. Though, Biology and Chemistry were my strong areas I still focussed on the NCERT books and the study material provided by Allen.
Question:What are your hobbies? Did you engage in them during the preparations?
Nalin Khandelwal: My hobbies included playing table tennis and billiards. I could not engage in it while preparing for NEET 2019. As far as de-stressing was concerned, teachers at the coaching institute were very friendly and supportive, so as such I never felt stressed out.
Question: What factors would you attribute this success to?
Nalin Khandelwal: Some of the very important factors that are responsible for my success are the support that I got from my family, friends and also self-study. All this played a vital role in achieving my goal.
Question: Any particular college you have in mind for admission?
Nalin Khandelwal: As of now I do not have any particular college in mind. I am presently waiting for AIIMS result 2019.
Question: Where do you see yourself in the next 10 years?
Nalin Khandelwal: It is difficult for me to answer this question as of now. I just want to live in the present and enjoy the moment.
Question:Any message or advice for future medical aspirants?
Nalin Khandelwal: My only advice to the future aspirants is to study thoroughly from NCERT books and read the chapters multiple times so that the concepts are very very clear.
